Exciting New Features & Upgrades Made to G5 Following Customer Feedback
When our widely anticipated G5 Pro Camera Hub was launched back in February of this year, we were inundated with feedback within our social media communities. We reached out last month, to Instagrammers, Redditors and more, requesting that you respond to our posts with your concerns and queries.
First and foremost – Thank you!
Your candid feedback regarding the G5 Pro’s subscription model and feature limitations has been invaluable. Here at Aqara, we have listened and today we are excited to share with you the improvements that address the feedback received, as well as some brand-new features.
Here’s what’s changing:
- Free Cloud Storage (for new AND existing users)
New Users will get 24 hours of free storage for the first 6-months. No trial activation or payment details will need to be provided for access to this. For those who already own the G5 – just remove and then re-add your camera via the Aqara Home App to activate the change.
- Local Functionality Improved
Local Automations will now be faster, and Detection & Automation Timeouts have been removed. There will no longer be a paywall for detection frequency, which means recordings and automations can be triggered every 15 seconds.
The “No Motion Detected for N Seconds” automation has been changed; spotlight behaviour will now be fully configured.
- Download Clips Locally
You will now be able to save event clips directly to your phone or other devices without a subscription
- More Flexibility for Recording & Storage
24/7 recording with SMB NAS, just hook up to your existing NAS for continuous recording. ONVIF support has been added for easy integration with third party NVRs for those with advanced setups.
- Improved AI Features
We have reduced false alerts, such as animals tagged as humans, refined detection zones and improved the automation options.
- Smarter Playback & Timeline Updated
The addition of fast-forward buttons mean smoother navigation of your local recordings; AI event markers have also been added to the Local Timeline to help locate important moments more quickly. Labelled events (such as faces, pets and vehicles) will be accessible without a subscription.
Now, when events are not detected, the camera will take pictures once every few minutes so there will be no empty gaps on your timeline.
At Aqara, we have always believed in local first, privacy focused devices. We are committed to keeping subscriptions optional and will only include cloud-exclusive perks such as longer storage or advanced functionalities.
With the G5, you will have full control over detection, automation and storage with no hidden costs or paywalls.
Most of these features will go live with Firmware 4.3.4 and App 5.2.0, both of which will be released on April 20th. Some will be included with App 5.1.9 which is released on the 4th of April.
